EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

Founder: Dyan Summers A.N.P., M.P.H.

Dyan, the founder of HealthShare, is a Nurse Practitioner and holds master's degrees in nursing and international public health from Columbia University. She is certified in tropical medicine and has designed and implemented community health projects in both Nicaragua and Venezuela. Dyan's hobby is to study and track primates in their natural habitats, which led her to the Caura River in Venezuela, where she first encountered the Ye'Kwana Indians.

President: Maurizio Benazzo

Italian born Maurizio worked with the Social Services Department of his home town of Genova, where he created "I Centratutto", numerous neighborhood centers to enable the elderly to reintegrate into the community. He arrived in the US on a 100 year-old sailing boat under the UNICEF flag, recreating the historic journey of Christopher Columbus. Maurizio is a filmmaker and actor, has travelled extensively and is a speaker of four languages. He co-directed the award-winning documentary Short Cut to Nirvana with HSI vice president Nick Day.

Vice President: Nick Day

Nick is an award-winning filmmaker, screenwriter, and editor originally from the UK. Nick studied film at the British Film Institute, London. His most recent film, Short Cut to Nirvana, played in the US and around the world to great acclaim. Nick is an avid traveller and has journeyed to many parts of the world. He is also a strong supporter of human rights causes, and is a long-time member of International Campaign for Tibet. For several years he has worked with US-based Tibet support groups building two schools for children of refugees in Nepal and India.

Development Chair: Amy Penfield

Amy has been involved in many international education projects. She has taught English in Nepal, organized activities for an orphanage in Romania and run a summer education program for disadvantaged children in Turkey. Since completing a degree in Anthropology at University College London she has been a fundraiser for educational and health organizations in San Francisco and New York.

BOARD MEMBERS

Vaughn Buffalo

Vaughn is a practicing corporate lawyer who founded and manages a law firm specializing in mergers and acquisitions and securities work in New York City. He is a graduate of Harvard University and Columbia law School. Vaughn was trained at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison and Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw where he volunteered his time on capital punishment matters and other non-profit business development initiatives. Vaughn also work as counsel for the NAACP Legal Defense Fund in their capital punishment department. Vaughn is an avid chess player, weightlifting enthusiast and amateur singer.

Roxanne Elling, R.N.

Roxanne holds a B.A. in Health Science from the University of Maryland and a B.S. in Nursing from Adelphi University. She has held both administrative and clinical positions at theVisiting Nurse Service of New York since 1992. Roxanne enjoys sailing on Long Island Sound with her paramedic husband Don and their son Connor.

Stuart Framm, M.D.

Stuart is a general internist and infectious disease specialist practicing in New York City. He is a graduate of The Johns Hopkins University and the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He has volunteered for health projects in rural Nicaragua and Venezuela. Stuart is an avid tennis player and a long term member of the New York-based Metropolitan Tennis Group.

Enrique Gallego

Enrique, a Venezuelan film producer and videographer, is a graduate of the University Institute in Caracas. Enrique has done international film work with indigenous groups in Latin America, Asia and Europe

Jane Grimes, R.N.

Jane is a graduate of the Mary View Hospital School of Nursing in Portsmith, Virginia. She has been managing the medical department at PepsiCo for over 30 years. She has participated in community health projects in Nicaragua, El Salvador, Kenya and Nepal. Jane is a dedicated mother and grandmother, and spends much of her free time engaged in volunteer projects.

Silvia Medina

Silvia is a Dominican who has volunteered for several non-profits whose focus is to improve the educational status of underrepresented populations. She hold a Marketing and International Business Degree from Penn State University and is currently working towards an MS in Strategic Communication at Columbia University.

Scott Newman, A.N.P., G.N.P.

Scott is a nurse practitioner specializing in tropical medicine and infectious diseases. He holds masters degrees in Adult and Geriatric Nursing from Columbia University. As an international travel health expert, Scott has been invaluable to our program development.
